Stewart Nicol, Chief Executive of Inverness Chamber is delighted to advise that the Cross Party Group on Digital Participation has been approved by the Scottish Parliament's Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee. Stewart said, 'As one of the four founding member organisations, we believe this Group will provide a key platform on which to move forward the issue of broadband and mobile phone coverage across the Highlands & Islands'.
The purpose of the group is to provide a platform for MSPs to engage with a range of organisations on issues relating to digital participation. The group will provide an opportunity to consider how best Scotland can maximise the social and economic benefits derived from the development of digital technologies. Commenting on the setting up of the group, the group’s Convenor, Willie Coffey, MSP said, ‘The level of support received for the setting up of the group has been tremendous and the importance of the subject is demonstrated by the wide range of both MSP and external members’.
Inverness Chamber will keep members informed on the progress of the Group. If there are particular issues you would like to see included in the Cross Party Group's work programme, please email
Stewart.
Alternatively, please pass any issues or comment to
Claire Mack of Ofcom, who is providing secretarial assistance to the group. The group's planned activities will be notified directly to members and placed on the Scottish Parliament
website.
