Business Week Puts Success In The Spotlight

Stewart Nicol, Chief Executive, Inverness Chamber of Commerce

The Highlands and Islands is an enormous and diverse area and is served by a huge range of businesses. Bringing these widespread companies together is challenging but also rewarding as there is so much we can learn from each other.

That is why Inverness Chamber of Commerce is counting down the days to the launch of Highland Business Week, which has become one of the highlights in the business calendar.

Now in its seventh year, this series of events spread over five days is a catalyst for businesses of all sizes and from a variety of sectors to meet to celebrate the region’s successes, but also find new joint opportunities.

From 23 to 27 September, Inverness Chamber has organised an exciting programme of events, including the annual Highland Spotlight Business Exhibition and the prestigious Highland Business Awards lunch, as well as a series of networking sessions and seminars.

Highland Spotlight is the area’s only dedicated business-to-business exhibition, showcasing the wide range of products and services available in the north of Scotland, while also offering a unique opportunity to make additional contacts and find new buyers and suppliers.

Featuring over 65 exhibitors across a wide range of sectors, the event, on 24 September, is also an ideal platform for exploring business opportunities. The 2018 event attracted more than 500 attendees and we hope to better that figure this year.

We will be taking bookings from 1 June, when we formally launch Highland Business Week. At that time entries will also open for the Highland Business Awards, which will bring the week to an end in grand style on 27 September.

The awards, which reward achievement across a broad spectrum of our economy, are region-wide and open to organisations of all sizes and all sectors in the Highlands and Islands and Moray.

Last year we received 106 quality entries from all parts of the region in the 12 diverse categories, demonstrating the strength and confidence within the business community, while the geographical spread of winners illustrated the awards’ vast catchment area.

In addition, one of the winners will be selected by the judges to win the overall title and be crowned Highland Business of the Year.

Highland Business Week is a vital part of Inverness Chamber’s strategy to connect, support and represent our memberships and the whole of the SME community across the region.

It dovetails with the recently-launched Open4Business Highlands & Islands (O4B H&I) online platform, which Inverness Chamber is running for the next two years. Both projects raise awareness of the strength of the local supply chain, help SMEs raise their profile and be aware of major contracts and procurement opportunities.

Our wide network of contacts and links with other chambers throughout the Highlands and Islands ensure the whole region can be engaged and working in an integrated way for the benefit of the wider economy.
