Member of the Week - Caledonian Sleeper
Serco took over Caledonian Sleeper in 2015, an overnight rail service which provides a direct route between Scotland, including Inverness, and London. Following a successful period they’re now set to move into a really exciting stage for the company as they get ready to reveal their fleet of new trains from October. It’s a great time to be working with the company and they can’t wait to show their guests the new fantastic onboard offering.
Based in their Glasgow office, we spoke to Rhiannon Merritt, whose role involves supporting their business guests, who frequently use Caledonian Sleeper to travel between meetings in Scotland and London. Caledonian Sleeper have a resource in place to ensure that their business guests have a team to come to, helping them with everything from support with bookings to questions about travel.
Rhiannon said: “We’ve had a great response to this and with my experience of working with VisitScotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, I’ve been able to enhance the level of service offered to Caledonian Sleeper guests.”
We asked Rhiannon why she would like Caledonian Sleeper to feature as member of the week: “This is a big year for us and we’re really excited to showcase the new Caledonian Sleeper to Inverness Chamber of Commerce Members. The new trains represent a transformation of the service and we’re really looking forward to getting the business community involved in the introduction.”
Caledonian Sleeper are keen to tell you about the preview of their new trains they’re hosting on 23 August in the Caledonian Sleeper Lounge in Inverness. This will be an opportunity to experience their Virtual Reality which provides a unique first glimpse into what the new service will offer. Caledonian Sleeper would like to welcome all Chamber members to come along to their hourly sessions to experience the VR whilst enjoying a taste of the great food and drink served on board, more information about the event can be found here.
We asked Rhiannon what Caledonian Sleeper’s business plans are over the next 12 months: “The new Caledonian Sleeper trains will be introduced on the Lowland route (Glasgow and Edinburgh) from 28 October this year and then on the Highland route, including Inverness, from early next year. During this time guests will see the service transformed into the most iconic way to travel between Scotland and London.”
Rhiannon shared with us the awards & commendations they have recently received: “We were very proud to receive the prestigious VisitScotland Taste Our Best award. The award is great recognition of our dedication to working with a range of local suppliers across the country and providing our guests with a sample of some of the best produce that the country has to offer.”
We asked Rhiannon what Caledonian Sleeper value most about their Chamber membership: “We really value our membership and relationship with the Chamber. It’s extremely beneficially in helping us to engage with the local business community and we’ve seen great results.”
Rhiannon shared with us their ‘top -tip’ for other members to maximise their ICC membership: “Building relationships with local businesses is vital. We work with a number of businesses across the Highlands which have led to greater guest experience, business opportunities and an amazing network of local suppliers.”
