Member of the Week - DSL Business Finance

Headquartered in Glasgow, DSL Business Finance is a not for profit organisation who celebrate their 25th anniversary this year! The DSL team was expanded to provide Loan Officer coverage throughout Scotland at the end of 2016 after winning the Scottish Government contract to deliver the Scottish Microfinance Fund. DSL provide loan funds of between £500- £25,000 on an unsecured basis with no arrangement fees or early repayment penalties for a maximum term of 5 years. DSL Business Finance are well supported by their funding partners – Scottish Government (ERDF) and The Start-up Loan Company. DSL Business Finance are aware of the difficulties that businesses, particularly start-ups, have in securing funding and the skills and experience necessary to meet the client’s needs not only with funding but investment readiness and post drawdown support.

We spoke to Murray Marshall, Loan Officer covering the Highlands & Islands. Murray said: “I have been in the role since December 2016. Previously I worked for RBS for 32 years with the last 15 years supporting businesses.”

Murray told ICC of Commerce why he would like DSL Finance to feature as member of the week: “While business is good, I still feel not enough people are aware of who I am and what I do – the best kept secret in the Highlands!”

DSL Business Finance would like to raise awareness of The Scottish Microfinance Fund (SMF) which is there for start-up and expanding businesses and is their main focus.

We asked Murray what their business plans are for the next 12 months: “To continue to expand the number and value of loans provided to both start-up and growing businesses in Highland & Islands and for DSL to be the preferred provider of Microfinance in the region.”

Murray shared with us their recent achievements at DSL: “Assisting our clients reach their business goals is what we are all about and we are pleased to have been able to provide funding to a number of H&I businesses one of which very recently is Seaforth Saddlers Ltd who provided this testimonial: -

‘From our initial contact with Murray all the way through to completing the purchase, Murray has believed in us and our project when others doubt He went over and above any expectations we have had to support us in purchasing our dream business. We can honestly say that without Murray’s help we would probably not have been able to source the extra funding needed. Not only did Murray help us secure the funding, he has been providing an excellent service to us since completion, giving us advice on areas which we are unsure on, giving us the confidence to know we are doing a good job and we have his full ongoing support. Again, we cannot thank Murray and the team at DSL enough and would fully recommend you contact Murray for any business finance requirements you have no matter how big the dream is!’ – Jason Thomas & Jacqueline Wilson

Murray shared with us what he values most about Chamber membership: ”Networking and meeting other businesses who may need our funding support in the future.”

Murray’s top tip for maximising your membership would be: “Attend as many events as you can and aim to speak to new people at each event.”
