Member of the Week - Equiom

22 years ago, Eagle Consulting was established. Their founding principle is to become the accounts department for their clients. They have built up expertise with knowledge across all areas of management accounting, payments and collections, payroll and statutory accounting and tax. They joined the Equiom Group in March 2017 and are excited by the opportunities of being part of a larger organisation. 

We spoke to Sarah Weir, Managing Director – Equiom Scotland. About her role, Sarah said: “I have overall responsibility for executing our financial performance, strategy and business development. Originally I’m from Edinburgh, I worked south of the border in London for 12 years and returned back ‘home’ to Scotland in 2009. After a series of senior level positions within the industry I joined Eagle Consulting in 2014. I’ve been in the accountancy sector for over 20 years and can honestly say that no day is ever the same.”

We asked Sarah why Equiom would like to feature as member of the week: “We are a home-grown business and we have big plans for our future in Inverness and want to share it with all Chamber members.”

Eagle Consulting’s core services have evolved over the years to adapt to new markets and demands. As part of the Equiom Group now, they see further opportunities for reaching new jurisdictions and for tailoring their services to meet evolving demands.  They started off purely providing accounting services, and added complementary services to their clients:

-Payroll – UK and with Equiom investment the Isle Of Man and the Channel Islands
-Payments and Collections – we are a double accredited BACS Bureau for payments and Direct Debit collections
-Statutory accounting and tax

Sarah said: “We will be supporting the fiduciary accounting within Equiom, and are expanding with more European focussed services for clients outside the UK.  Of course we now have a wider suite of services to offer private and corporate clients, including multi-jurisdictional fiduciary services, tax advice, corporate services and many of the other complementary services from the wider global Equiom Group."

We asked Sarah what their plans are over the coming 12 months: “Our plans are to pursue further opportunities for growth and to work with Equiom Group to expand and enhance our existing services. In development is a new payroll system which will allow our services to be offered across even more jurisdictions. There will be growth and local jobs created as we support fiduciary accounting from Guernsey initially, and look to provide additional capacity to support Malta, Jersey and the Isle of Man and wider across our other jurisdictions in Europe.  Equiom have provided significant investment to our systems and infrastructure, and as a result we are about to deliver a market leading accounts and reporting software package to our clients, which will further enhance the excellence and service they have enjoyed from us in the past."

"We are also continuing to increase our head-count by hiring local expertise and supporting professional development through our accountancy training programme.”

Equiom Group have recently been shortlisted in three categories – Service Provider Team Award, Rising Star Award and Best Leader Award – in the Reward Strategy Awards 2017 for their payroll. Additionally, Equiom Group has received countless awards over the years including International Financial Centre Awards, Citywealth Magic Circle Awards and Citywealth Powerwomen Awards.

We asked Sarah what she values most about Chamber membership: “The opportunity to meet with the local business community who are as passionate about being a good employer within the Inverness market as we are.” Sarah also provided her ‘top tip’ for maximising the use of your Chamber membership: “Encourage your rising stars to attend as many events as possible to take advantage of the networking opportunities.”
