Member of the Week - Essence Of Harris
Essence of Harris, formerly known as ‘Buth Bheag Candle Co’ is 2 and a half years old and was created by couple, Jamie, originally from Glasgow but now calls Harris, ‘home’ and Deenie, an Isle of Harris native. Jamie and Deenie immensely enjoy having candles in their home. When they realised no one in the Hebrides was creating candles; and inspired by the elements of the island, particularly the beaches; they began experimenting with different scents and candle making at home. And then, 'Essence of Harris' was born! If you have the chance, take a trip to Harris and pop into their shop and factory to see how they make their products!
Now with 9 employees making up their team, Essence of Harris outlets can be found at the Inverness Airport Departure Lounge and also on Tarbert High Street, Harris! You can also meet the Essence of Harris team here.
Jamie McGowan is a self-employed business owner with his partner, Deenie. Jamie said “I’m really ambitious and love to see how Essence of Harris has developed over the years. I believe in producing quality products, with the finest ingredients to showcase what we can do here in Scotland. Given we’re from such a remote area of the Highlands and Islands, I’m proud of how well our candles and home fragrance have been both at home and abroad. We’re always thinking ahead so watch this space because they’re lots more to come from Essence of Harris in 2018!”.
Jamie also writes a monthly column for Highland Life magazine, spreading news from their ‘wee island’, their family business and more so have a read if you get the chance!
We asked Jamie why he would like to feature as member of the week: “We’ve got such quality products, inspired by the elements of the Outer Hebrides. It really is such a beautiful place to call home and if I’m able to share just a little ‘Essence of Harris’ as member of the week then that’s just brilliant. It’s always great to connect with new people so we encourage Chamber followers to get in touch!”
Essence of Harris shared what they value most about Chamber membership: “Networking opportunity, making new connections in the Highlands and Islands, collaborating with local businesses”.
Jamie’s ‘tip top’ to get the most from your membership would be: “Attending the networking lunches and events to meet people face to face; utilise the Chamber social media channels to share key news stories; get the dates for the Executive Magazine to ensure you take advantage of ‘members news’ editorial and other print media opportunities!”.
