Over the course of this week, we’ll be looking at various units within Macleod and MacCallum including: Lettings Department, Property Department, Rural Land, Private Client, and Family Law. Today’s focus is the Rural Land Department.

Rural Land

Macleod and MacCallum have a long standing tradition of providing agricultural and crofting law and rural property advice of the highest quality to many clients throughout the Highlands and Islands.  This tradition is carried on today by the current Rural Land team, who can provide expert advice on all aspects of rural law.

The law as it applies to agricultural holdings has undergone significant change recently, most notably with the introduction of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2016.  Crofting has always been a complicated area of law and that remains true today with successive governments introducing legislation in an ongoing attempt to modernise the legal framework, with mixed results.

Macleod and MacCallum's Rural Land team are ideally placed to provide legal advice across a full range of rural land matters.  Ruth is a registered paralegal with extensive experience in property law and a particular expertise in crofting transactions.  Gary heads up the Rural Land team and advises clients on all aspects of rural property including the purchase and sale of farms, estates, crofts and forestry and also provides advice to rural businesses including farming partnerships and limited companies.
