Member of the Week - Maggie’s Highlands
Maggie's Highlands provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their family and friends across the whole of the Highlands. Maggie's offers a programme of support that has been shown to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing. Built in the grounds of Raigmore Hospital, the centre is a warm and welcoming place with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need to find their way through cancer.
Maggie's Highlands will be celebrating its 14th birthday this year, having helped over 85,000 visitors dealing with Cancer since opening in 2005. This year the Highlands centre expects to see around 11,000 visitors from across the Highlands who need the support and services that Maggie's offers.
Maggie's Highlands cost £480,000 a year to run and relies solely on voluntary donations to deliver its incredible, high quality and unique programme of support. If you'd like to find out more about how you can support Maggie's or to make a donation please get in touch with email@example.com
We spoke to Andrew Benjamin who has been with Maggie’s Highlands as Fundraising Manager for five years. About his role at Maggie’s, Andrew said: “The main objective of my job is to raise the £500,000 it takes to run Maggie’s which is a tall order given that Maggie’s relies solely on voluntary donations and fundraising. I’m privileged to see every day the fantastic support that Maggie’s Highlands offers Highland people who are affected by cancer and also to meet so many courageous individuals who use Maggie’s.”
Maggie’s would like to use this member of week opportunity to highlight and inform people of the support and services they offer in hope that anybody who may ever need them knows where they are!
Andrew told us about some of Maggie’s exciting upcoming events: We are delighted to announce the date for the 2020 prestigious “Maggie’s Highland Golf Day and Dinner” Sponsored by “The Tomatin Distillery CO Ltd” the date is Friday 17th April 2020 and we are now taking bookings! As always a spectacular and fun day is to be had with the golf taking place at the beautiful and stunning Castle Stuart Golf Links where the normal high standard greens can be expected and the dinner will again be at held at the brilliant Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness where a fabulous meal with wine will be served for your table of 8. As usual we will have plenty of entertainment on the night with another amazing auction and as always you’ll be able to dance the night away with our Headline Band!!(We shall announce very soon). The “We Film Golf” crew will be as usual out on course looking for stars on the day to appear in the much anticipated evening video!!
The 2019 event was everything we could have asked for and more, with an astonishing £62,000 raised all of which goes to the Maggies Highlands centre. The organising committee and everyone associated to Maggie’s are truly thankful and appreciate your support in enabling us to continue to support people with cancer, their families and their friends in the across the Highlands, so thank you very much. We are pleased to say that the package price for 2020 remains the same as the last three years which is £1,295 per team which includes the 4 ball at Castle Stuart and a table for 8 people at the Gala Dinner.
The dress code, as usual, will be Black Tie.
