Member of the Week - ROAVR | UAS
ROAVR | UAS was established in 2012 beginning commercial operation in 2013. ROAVR was one of the very first business in Scotland to utilise UAS in their everyday work. ROAVR was initially conceived as a bolt on to an existing environmental consultancy business which would use UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) to aid with planning applications, site surveys and tree reports. The team quickly released that we were ahead of the game and that the demand was for TV, Media and Film work.
ROAVR up skilled with investment in the best technology and people and have worked now on several feature films such as Transformers, The Last Night, Country Music and Retreat.
ROAVR continues to expand with Paul Billany joining the team, specialising in Drone Photography.
ROAVR’s survey and inspection teams work with industry professionals on infrastructure inspections and survey projects whilst their consultants offer bespoke training to any business looking to adopt UAS technology in-house.
We spoke to Matt Harmsworth, Vice Chairman of the industry trade body ARPAS-UK, who has worked as an aerial coordinator on several feature films and is a qualified ground school and flight assessor.
Matt is passionate about the technology and what it can achieve. Matt has adopted a safety culture from the manned aviation world and applies that to ROAVR | UAS projects. He is passionate that their equipment is built and maintained in-house rather than bought off a shelf ensuring ROAVR can adapt in the field as required by the client.
We asked Matt why ROAVR would like to be featured as member of the week: “We believe we have a unique business and are at the absolute fore front of this technology in northern Scotland and certainly in the Highlands. We want to make sure other Chamber members make informed and safe buying decisions when adopting the technology or commissioning sales.”
ROAVR are now able to take your requirements for a corporate video package or social media short from concept to a delivered product using a combination of ground and aerial filming that does not exist under one roof in The Highlands.
Matt shared with us their business plans over the next 12 months: “To develop our creative department and provide quality products to local business that shake up the market place.”
ROAVR are members of ARPAS-UK, they hold CHAS and SafeContractor accreditations for their inspection works, they are 1st Option Safety Approved and members of the Guild of Television Camera Professionals. Many products featuring their aerials have won awards. Most recently the feature Retreat shot in the Scottish Highlands.
Matt shared with us what ROAVR values most about Chamber membership: “The networking opportunities and the ability to have an overview of the business community in the area. We wish we had more time to get involved!”. Matt’s top-tip to make the most of your membership: “Attend events!”.
