Member of the Week - Speyside Distillery

Speyside Distillery is a small boutique distillery located near the village of Kingussie which went into production on 25th December 1990 and sold spirit under the name of Speyside Distillery. By using traditional methods still employed to this day, the distillery initially started producing a number of single malts as well as spirit for blended malts.

A small team of 4 lead by Distillery Manager, Sandy Jamieson operate at the Kinguisse site with a team of 7 more at their Head Office located their new Speyside Gallery and Lounge on Bath Street, Glasgow.

Now home to “SPEY” from Speyside Distillery – a luxurious, high-quality, single malt which, owned by Harvey’s of Edinburgh,  has been fairly recently produced but the history and the dynasty behind Spey spans more than two centuries!
We spoke to Susan Libeks, who works for the Spey family as Business Development Manager, who focusses on the Distillery and brand development of SPEY and the more recent Beinn Dubh. Susan also works in partnership with local accommodation providers to offer bespoke distillery tours and events at the beautiful artisan Speyside Distillery located in the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains.

As the key sponsors of Thunder in the Glens in Aviemore, Speyside Distillery has released a new Single Cask Beinn Dubh single malt whisky, Ruby Black Beinn Dubh, 43%ABV, which is being bottled and labelled for Thunder in the Glens 2017. The event celebrates its 21st Anniversary from 25th – 27th August 2017.

Since 2010 Speyside Distillers have sponsored art students to attend the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts from China, Taiwan and in the UK with Joanna McDonough amongst the group who are then financially supported by Speyside to become commercially successful artists. Speyside Distillery launched on 4th August 2017 the new Spey Wildlife Art Collection of Single Malt, Single Cask Whisky – the first ever bottling of SPEY whiskies with the beautiful art of Artist in Residence Joanna McDonough featured on the labels. 12 of Joanna’s wildlife art pieces have been exhibited throughout the UK and Taiwan, including the Saatchi Gallery.

Greater China is the number one market for Speyside Distillery, accounting for 70% of their overall turnover and 30% in the UK and rest of the world. Speyside Distillery have introduced a new exclusive product offer through Bank of China to their list of Clientele and credit card holders which been recently contracted and signed. Speyside Distillery believes this will raise brand awareness to their clients.

Speyside Distillery are delighted to announce the appointment of a new partner and distributor into the USA commencing in Autumn 2017. In addition, SPEY products are also available now in Dubai Duty Free.

Speyside Distillery were also winners at the International Wine & Spirits competition 2017, taking home bronze and silvers medals, which they were delighted to receive having entered this year for the first time.
