Member of the Week - The Virtual Learning Academy

The Virtual Learning Academy (The VLA) is a Training Provider founded in 2011 by Catherine Sutherland. Originating in the Highlands of Scotland she recognised a need for more flexible and accessible learning methods to overcome the geographical challenges inherent in the UK’s most remote region. The mission of the VLA is to break down the barriers to learning to ensure opportunity for all. The VLA have been creating and innovating new methods of course delivery to meet the learning style and needs of those with diverse work and life commitments, specialising in both Organisational and Personal Development and Modern Apprenticeship delivery.

We spoke to Louise Wheeler, Business Development Manager for The VLA. Louise said: “With 10 Years Business Development Experience in the local area I joined the VLA team earlier this year. I am responsible for growth opportunities for the business and building relationships with local business to explore training opportunities for their staff.”

We asked Louise why The VLA would like to feature as member of the week: “We have recently gone through a period of growth in terms of our team, also our product portfolio has grown considerably, therefor it felt like the right time connect with fellow Chamber members and share our new products and opportunities.”

The VLA were recently awarded their new Modern Apprenticeship contract which includes subjects across the following area, project management, occupational health and safety, business admin, digital applications, digital marketing, IT, management, accounts, hospitality and customer service.   Most of which are available on either a full or part funded basis.

Louise shared with us The VLA’s business plans for the coming 12 months: “To be the leading training provider in the Highlands, to continue to grow our team and to keep working with employers throughout the Highlands to provide a quality service in upskilling their staff.”

The VLA were delighted to be shortlisted recently for Highland Women’s Business Awards in the following Categories – Most Enterprising Business and Highland Rising Start.

We asked Louise what The VLA value most about their Inverness Chamber membership: “The ability to network with local Highland business’s and the use of the Chamber Directory Database for marketing purposes.”
