Member of the Week - Yellow Cherry Digital
Yellow Cherry Digital is an innovative, marketing agency based in central Inverness, Scotland. They have worked hard to develop a reputation for offering a first-class alternative to larger creative agencies, whilst they have a wealth of collective experience to draw from and a varied client base, Yellow Cherry Digital endeavor to keep their pricing competitive.
Yellow Cherry Digital are committed to improving the offering of Marketing services in the North of Scotland, their aim being to build an agency that attracts the talent of local creatives and encourages them to seek employment here rather than relocate to the larger cities in the Central Belt and beyond.
In order to achieve this, YCD is committed to up-skilling staff through training, flexible working, profit sharing and proactively reducing costs where possible, they use digital systems to manage client projects and internal operations which keeps administration fees and environmental waste at a low level. As a result, Yellow Cherry Digital have attracted clients from all over the UK and Europe.
Sarah Francis, Yellow Cherry Digital's Managing and Creative Director, relocated to the Cairngorms National Park in early 2009 after a successful career in Southampton for a full-service marketing agency where she managed projects for the NHS, large private organisations and charities alike.
Sarah began trading as a consultant soon after her relocation and Yellow Cherry Digital has enjoyed sustained business growth since. Whilst in Southampton she worked along-side Graphic Design and Public Relations teams ensuring that Yellow Cherry Digital now provides a full-service offering, in a value-for-money proposition.
ICC spoke to Sarah Francis, Managing Creative Director at Yellow Cherry about her role in the business: “On a day to day basis I’m usually looking at business growth and managing projects but having developed the team over the last couple of years, more recently I’ve been able to get back to service delivery which I just love. Over the years I’ve delivered workshops for Business Gateway on the National Digital Boost programme and consultancy services for Highlands and Islands Enterprise, on the Specialist Advice Framework via collaboration with local training company Tuminds Social Media.
I’m married with three small children and lead a pretty full life - juggling the business and home life can be a challenge but I’m certainly never bored! I’m actively involved with local charity, Adopt A Child UK, as a Director and more recently joined the Calman Enterprise (Calman Trust) board to help support them moving forward.”
The timing of this member of the week profile has come at a great time for Yellow Cherry as they celebrate their 10th Anniversary at the start of the new tax year, meaning they have provided 10 years of Website Development, Graphic Design & Digital Marketing to over 300 clients in over 50 industries!
In 2019, Yellow Cherry added video and photography services to their portfolio, Sarah said: “this year one of our new starts bring Animation to the mix which is quite exciting for us and should be a lot of fun!”
We asked Sarah about her business plans for the next 12 months: “We plan to add three Cherries to the team in June 2020 (Development, Project Management and Design), expanding into the office suite next door to us.
We are enthusiastic about supporting people as they start out in their digital and creative careers, we are delighted to have been able to provide internships during 2017 (x1), 2018 (x3) and 2019 (x4 to date). We hope to offer these again over the academic breaks in 2020.
Investing in people this way means that the talent we need will be available to us and other businesses throughout the Highlands & Islands. Our aim is to help safeguard the future of our industry and continue to benefit the local economy, not only through our own growth but through assisting the growth of our clients' businesses.”
Sarah told us about their recent awards and commendations:
SHIRES – Digital Byte Award – Finalist
FSB Awards – Digital Business of the Year (Scotland) – Finalist (awards postponed to the Autumn).”
We asked Sarah what she values most about her Inverness Chamber Membership: “The networking events are a great opportunity to see the whites of people’s eyes. We do business with people, not companies and so it’s important to get out and meet each other in the flesh.”
