Resource Efficient Scotland is a programme of Zero Waste Scotland, funded by Scottish Government and European Regional Development Funds.

Operational since 2013, the programme offers free advice and technical support as well as the sharing of best practices and new technologies. Consider it a one-stop shop for resource efficiency.

What is unique about your business and why should businesses consider Resource Efficient Scotland?

When a business operates more resource efficiently they can make a positive, and often considerable difference to their bottom line.

We know there are still many small businesses which could really benefit from simple improvements to prevent cut energy and water use and prevent waste, saving themselves money.

Being resource efficient provides a number of business benefits. Increased efficiency and profitability. Improved staff morale and an enhanced employer brand which attracts new talent. Improved green credentials which can garner customer loyalty and improve procurement success. Ultimately being more resource efficient not only cut costs it also improves competitiveness.

Our core offering of one-to-one support continues to engage with hundreds of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) every year to cut energy, water and waste costs.

To date over 3,164 organisations have benefited from free support to improve their resource efficiency. We typically help businesses identify savings of 24% on their energy bills.

When a business contacts the with an eligible resource efficiency project they get a dedicated expert advisor to work to provide free support and guidance at no cost. The aim is to help businesses to identify efficiency improvements with the greatest benefit to the bottom line.

Following a site visit a report is provided that outlines the opportunities to reduce energy, water or prevent waste which in turn will reduce overheads. Moving into an implementation phase, our one-to-one support, also helps facilitate access to funding to help deliver the project.

SME Loan now with 15% cashback, while funds last.

The Scottish Government is committed to supporting businesses across Scotland to improve their energy and resource efficiency, to help reduce energy costs and increase their competitiveness.

Since its launch in 2008, the SME Loan Scheme has provided Scottish businesses with over £26.24 million in loans for over 968 projects, resulting in estimate heat and electricity energy savings of 438 GWh and financial savings of over £49 million. We are building on these successes by offering SMEs a cashback incentive of 15% in order to take positive action on their energy bills, reducing both cost and carbon impact.

For a limited time while funds last, eligible small businesses applying for the interest free, unsecured Scottish Government SME Loan can receive 15% cashback. That’s up to £10,000 in cashback on completion of their energy efficiency improvements. These include, but are not limited to:

investing in LED lighting
installing more efficient heating systems
improving the insulation of a building or investing in more energy efficient equipment, such as a state of the art oven or a more efficient refrigeration unit.

Our is currently offering Scottish Government grants of up to £100,000 to small and medium-sized organisations with an inspired idea to reduce their waste, especially plastic waste. Whatever the idea, we want to hear about it. We want to help you make it happen if we can. All that’s needed is an Expression of Interest outlining the idea to get started.
